Charlie and the Chocolate FactoryCharlie and the Chocolate Factory
by Roald Dahl

13 September is Roald Dahl Day because he was born on this day in 1916. That’s why we’ve prepared a reading activity for you based on Dahl’s famous book.
Charlie Bucket lived with his parents and four grandparents in a little house. They were so poor that they often had almost nothing to eat. Charlie loved chocolate, but he would get a small piece just for his birthday. Then one day something fantastic happened. Willy Wonka, a mysterious man who had a chocolate factory, invited five kids to see it. Five Golden Tickets were hidden  in his chocolates and Charlie found the last one!
‘It’s a Golden Ticket!’ screamed the shopkeeper. ‘You’ve found the last Golden Ticket! Come and look at this, everybody! The kid’s found Wonka’s last Golden Ticket! It’s right here in his hands!”
The important day came and the lucky kids were greeted by Willy Wonka in the factory. The factory was amazing. Chocolate and sweets were everywhere.

‘There!’ cried Mr Wonka, pointing at the great brown river. ‘It’s all chocolate! There’s enough chocolate in there to fill every bathtub in the entire country! And all the swimming pools as well!’
During the day four of the kids had to leave because they were greedy and spoilt. Only Charlie was left.

Charlie cried ‘I think it’s the most wonderful place in the whole world!’ ‘I am very pleased8 to hear you say that,’ said Mr Wonka, ‘As soon as you are old enough to run it, the entire factory will become yours.’
